Degus are small, lively rodents originally from Chile in South America. Theyâre part of the same family as chinchillas and guinea pigs and are well known for their social nature, curious personalities, and playful behaviour.
Our degus love to chatter! They communicate with each other using a mix of chirps, squeaks, whistles, and even little grumbles. Can you figure out what theyâre saying to one another?
Theyâre expert diggers, climbers, and chewers – so we make sure their enclosure is packed with tunnels, toys, and branches to keep them busy and happy.

Degus eat a diet of hay, grasses, and special degu pellets, along with the occasional healthy treat like dried herbs or dandelion leaves. But no sugary snacks – degus are prone to diabetes, so their diet needs to stay sugar-free.
Unlike most rodents, degus are diurnal, meaning theyâre awake during the day – so youâve got a great chance of spotting them during your visit!
Weâve got a lovely little group of degus here at Monk Park Farm – see if you can spot them all and watch their busy little world in action!
