Meet the Polish Hens 🐔

The Polish Hen is a European breed of crested chicken, instantly recognisable thanks to its remarkable puff of head feathers.

Despite the name, the breed is actually thought to have originated in the Netherlands, not Poland.

Polish chickens are known for being a little quirky and eccentric, but that’s all part of their charm. Their beautiful crest gives them a truly unique look – but it can also limit their vision, which can make them more timid or easily startled compared to other breeds.

While they’re not typically bred for egg-laying, a healthy Polish Hen can still produce around 150 eggs per year.

At Monk Park Farm, Farmer Lauren loves Polish Hens – and it’s easy to see why. Their fancy feathers and funny personalities make them a firm favourite with staff and visitors alike!
