Runner ducks are a unique and entertaining breed of domestic duck, originally from Southeast Asia.
They’re best known for their upright posture and the way they run rather than waddle – hence the name!
Unlike most ducks, runner ducks don’t fly and prefer to stay on the ground, where they’re constantly on the move. They’re incredibly active and fun to watch as they dart around looking for food.

They love water but don’t need a pond to be happy – a splashy paddling area is more than enough to keep them entertained.
Runner ducks eat a diet of grains, vegetables, and insects, and they also enjoy foraging for bugs and slugs, which makes them great natural pest controllers!
We have a charming little group of runner ducks here at Monk Park Farm.
See if you can spot their upright run – it’s a bit like watching a group of bowling pins come to life!
