✂️🦙 It’s Shearing Season at Monk Park Farm! 🦙✂️

It’s that time of year again – the alpacas have had their annual trim! ✨ If you visited us on Saturday 14th June, you might have seen Jonathan, our expert shearer, in action giving our fluffiest residents their fresh summer look and don’t they look fab?

All of our sheep and alpacas are sheared once a year, which helps them stay cool and healthy through the warmer months. However, some breeds – like our Valais Blacknose sheep – have extra-thick fleece and need a second shear later in the season, so Jonathan will be back again soon!

Why do we shear?

🌡️ To keep them cool – A thick fleece can cause animals to overheat in the summer.
🧼 To keep them clean and comfy – Shearing helps prevent matting and skin issues.
✂️ To care for their wool – Their fleece is beautiful and needs proper maintenance.

The animals are now sporting their sleek new looks and are loving the sunshine – come and say hello to our freshly trimmed gang! 🐑🦙
