Meet Kevin the Peacock 🦚

Peacocks are the male members of the peafowl family, while females are called peahens – though most people tend to call them all “peacocks”!

Only the males have the famous elaborate tail feathers, which they fan out in a beautiful display. It’s thought this colourful show is used to attract a mate, though scientists believe there may be more to it than just showing off!

Peafowl originally come from India and are considered forest birds. They typically nest on the ground, but can roost high in trees to stay safe from predators. Their diet includes plants, flower petals, seed heads, and insects.

Here at Monk Park Farm, our one and only peacock – Kevin – arrived in 2021. He’s confident, curious, and often seen strutting proudly around the farm with his tail feathers on full display. If you don’t spot him first, you’ll almost certainly hear him!
